American Indian Heritage Month


In 1990 President George H. W. Bush approved a joint resolution which designated November 1990 as "National American Indian HEritage Month." Since 1994, similar proclamations (Native American Heritage Month and National Amreican Indian and Alaska Native HEritage Month) have been issued since 1994. (Library of Congress, 2014)

American Indians of the Pacific Northwest

The Library of Congress, American Memory, and the University of Washington present more than 2.300 photographs and text. The materials cover the American Indians' housing, clothing, crafts, education, employment, transportation, and other aspects of everyday life.


Native American History through Stories
Grades 3-5 explore Native American culture through Pourquoi stories. Grades 6-8 study Patrick Henry's "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death." Grades 9-12 make connections to Myth an dFolktakes. Lesson plans and other activities are available for grade levels.


Native American and Alaska Native Heritage Month
The National Education Assiciation (NEA) provides lesson plans, activities, printables, posters, videos and other background resources for grades K-12.
